Lunaz is a British company founded in 2018 that has found a market niche that can give it very good returns: electrify classic luxury vehicles, which will allow their owners -whether private owners or institutions- to continue using them for years in the shelter of any restriction imposed for environmental reasons.

Its product portfolio already includes two transformations made on a Jaguar XK120 and a Bentley S2 Flying Spur and now it makes the leap to the 'sancta santorum' of luxury cars: Rolls-Royce.

Up to 30 units, but not one more, will produce two of the emblematic models in the history of the British manufacturer, the Phantom V launched in 1959 and the Silver Cloud of 1955. The latter, in any of its declines: four-door saloon, two coupe and convertible. They would be the first Rolls-Royce of this type in the world and those who are interested in purchasing one should contact the factory directly, apart from having a more than comfortable economy. Here you can see a gallery with more images of Lunaz cars.

The price of the first of them would cost in Spain, including VAT since it would not pay Registration Tax as it is zero emissions, about 670,000 euros at least since the cost of customization that each client chooses is not included. In the second we would be talking about 470,000 euros.

Transformation process from scratch

Lunaz assures that the new project and the demand it has detected will make it necessary to double the workforce, for which they have recruited employees from the cream of the industry: Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Volkswagen, McLaren, Formula 1 and Rolls-Royce itself.

Its facilities are located in Silverstone. There, operators carry out a restoration that starts from scratch. All cars are returned to their original condition, 3D scanned, weighed and fully restored before the conversion and reengineering process begins. This, in addition, gives each client the possibility of personalizing the vehicle as far as their tastes or their portfolio allow.

The maximum range is 300 miles, just over 480 km.

The issue of weighing is not a minor issue, as it is essential in order to optimize dynamics and ride comfort once the new powertrain, batteries and all the electronics that govern both are coupled. It is a 120 kWh battery, which admits both charging in a domestic socket and in a fast pole. Lunaz only provides one more piece of information: an estimated range of up to 300 miles (about 480 kilometers) more than enough distance for both models, the Phantom designed to be chauffeured, the Silver Cloud to drive it yourself.

Nothing is said about potency, so the motto that the Crewe house used in the past: "enough" will have to be followed to the letter . And of course, with a level of refinement and driving silence, thanks to the electric propulsion, even higher than those that Rolls-Royce have always shown.

Past and future go hand in hand

In the case of the Phantom, the conversion was made from a 1961 unit, with an eight-seat configuration. Three at the front, separated from the rest by a retractable glass partition, three on the rear bench and two carriers on the sides.

The entire interior (in leather and fine wood) was painstakingly restored, adding elements such as alpaca rugs, a material rarer than cashmere, softer than lamb's wool and considered highly sustainable; or rose gold inlays in the carpentry panels of the doors, the dashboard or the rear side tables that, when opened, reveal two digital screens where passengers can see all kinds of content, even launched from their mobile phone.

Because the original design is maintained (the instrumentation only adds a power meter and a battery charge meter), but packed with the latest technological comforts. For example, the driver has an infotainment system with satellite navigation. In addition, the audio can be divided between the rear and the front and the climate control is adjustable at will for each passenger.

Although there are still the typical details for the most gourmets, such as the hidden bar in the back area, which can be ordered adapted to the size and shape of our favorite drink. Or the multiple details in pink (taken from the original Bakelite phone that the car carried) and that can be seen both in the cabin (on the handles to facilitate entry and exit) and dividing the two-color paint (in two shades of gray) of the bodywork.
