Mikael Renberg played with Dale Hawerchuk in Philadelphia in the late 1990s. He describes Hawerchuk as a nice man and an intelligent ice hockey player.

- He was a nice guy. Very talkative in a positive way and spread joy in the dressing room. He died far too soon, says Mikael Renberg to SVT Sport.

Dale Hawerchuk was a big NHL star in the 1980s, most notably as team captain for Winnipeg, Canada, where he has his shirt hoisted to the ceiling.

- He was a good player, intelligent and good with the puck. He kind of got the puck with him in all possible and impossible situations, says Renberg.

Hawerchuk was diagnosed in September last year with stomach cancer, which he died in the suites of 57-year-old. It was Dale's son, Eric, who announced his father's death via social media yesterday.
