Long absence of Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen after undergoing knee surgery

Spanish football club Barcelona announced today that its German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has undergone surgery on his right knee and will need two and a half months of rest before returning to the stadiums. The Catalan club said in a statement that the goalkeeper performed the operation under the supervision of Dr. Ramon Cogat on the patellar tendon in the right knee.

Ter Stegen, who joined Barcelona in 2014, has played 46 games this season (36 in the Spanish League, 8 in the Champions League and two in the Copa del Rey) and has managed to keep 15 clean sheets.

Barcelona sacked coach Quique Setien from his post on Monday after the humiliating exit from the Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich, losing 2-8, and coming second in the domestic league behind rivals Real Madrid, amid nominations for his former Dutch international defender Ronald Koeman to succeed him.
