The 66-year-old Norwegian was most recently the national team captain for the Danish national team, between 2016 and 2020. During these years, he led the country to both the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 European Championships (2020, but which has been moved).

Hareide was ready as coach for Rosenborg already a month ago. But then had to say no to the job due to health reasons after a knee operation.

Between 2014-2016, he coached Malmö FF and took the club to two straight Champions League group games.

He has previously won Swedish Championship gold as a coach for Helsingborgs IF and also coached Örgryte in Sweden.
