The French football leagues ended prematurely due to the ongoing corona pandemic. When the French Football Federation was to decide which teams would be moved up in the league system, they were forced to divide points by the number of matches played. Something that hit Saint-Etienne hard.

The club had three points up to leading Le Havre when the last match against Yzeure was canceled due to the pitch being too bad. The league's calculation, which did not take into account that Saint-Etienne had a better goal difference, resulted in an average of 2.46 points per game while Le Havre had 2.5.

The club believes that the decision is unfair and has appealed to the administrative court without being heard.
