Barcelona calls for an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors

The Spanish club Barcelona called for an exceptional meeting of the board of directors early next week to discuss the implications of the heavy loss suffered by the football team against Bayern Munich, 2-8 in the quarter-finals of the European Champions League last Friday.

"The president (Josep Maria Bartomeu) called an urgent meeting of the board of directors at the beginning of next week, probably Monday," Mundo Deportivo reported.

As for the Catalan newspaper "Esportio", it said, "The board of directors of the Blaugrana will meet on Monday, with coach Quique Setien dismissed from his post, and early presidential elections can be announced."

Bartomeu had spoken to the Spanish radio station Movistar after the match and offered his apology to the team’s supporters.

Bartomeu may decide to advance the presidential elections that were scheduled for the summer of 2021 and set them up in November, January or March, according to the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", in order to build the team on the basis of a new program.

After his resounding fall to the Bavarian team, Barcelona came out empty handed, domestically and continually, for the first time in 13 years.
