Manchester City were the big favorites against Lyon in the last quarter-final of the Champions League.

But they fell and the French took a place among the top four along with PSG, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.

After the exit, City's star, Kevin De Bruyne, was down.

- I am mentally tired, he says in Viasat's broadcast and continues:

- In the first half we were good but it went far too slowly and we did not create any chances. In the second half we played better and should have scored more goals. Then we give them two cheap goals and it's all over. It feels like this repeats itself every year for me.

"Never won it"

De Bruyns believes that mistakes bring down the team.

- Every year we go in to win the tournament but we have never won it. We make far too many mistakes. We need to look at what we can do better and come back stronger.

When Lyon were in the lead with 2-1 in the final stages of the match, Raheem Sterling had a great opportunity to equalize. The Englishman missed an open goal from a position in the middle of the penalty area when he shot over.

That goal would of course have taken the Premier League runner-up back into the match, De Bruyne also believes.

- At this level, mistakes cost us far too much. I do not want to blame Raheem (Sterling), as he has been one of our best players this season. But there we have the difference tonight. If we score goals there, it is acknowledged, now they score goals immediately after instead, says De Bruyne.

For the third year in a row, Manchester City reach the quarterfinals.
