Remco Evenepoel suffered a pelvic fracture during his hard fall in the Tour of Lombardy on Saturday and bruised his right lung, his team Deceuninck-Quick-Step said. According to team boss Patrick Lefevere, the Belgian's season is over.
Twenty-year-old Evenepoel missed a corner in the descent and flipped over. He dived over the railing of a bridge and hit the ground after falling several meters.
The organization of the Tour of Lombardy announced twenty minutes after the fall that Evenepoel was conscious. He was taken from the ravine by medical personnel and taken to the hospital in Como.
Deceuninck-Quick-Step also reported that Evenepoel will stay in the Italian hospital for the next night and will return to Belgium on Sunday.

Evenepoel was one of the favorites
Evenepoel was still part of the leading group at a good 40 kilometers from the finish. The top talent was one of the favorites for the win.
It is the second time this month that a Deceuninck-Quick-Step rider has crashed hard. In the Tour of Poland things went wrong for Fabio Jakobsen, who was kept in an artificial coma for several days after his fall.
Jakob Fuglsang eventually soloed to victory in the Tour of Lombardy. Defending champion Bauke Mollema came fourth.
