Gerard Piqué has drawn firm conclusions on Friday after the defeat of no less than 8-2 against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The defender thinks it is high time for a change at FC Barcelona.

"This is a shame, I cannot say otherwise. And it is not the first or second time. The club needs all kinds of changes," said 33-year-old Piqué, who has played for Barcelona since 2008.

"We have reached the low point. If I have to make way for fresh blood, I will leave. In Europe we no longer participate and we no longer have it in the competition. There are no more excuses."

Piqué won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2009, 2011 and 2015. In the last thirteen seasons, the Spanish top club always reached at least the quarter finals of the most important European club tournament.

Bayern is the third club after Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig to reach the semi-finals in this season's edition. The last semi-finalist will come from the Manchester City-Olympique Lyon match on Saturday.
