Luleå was one of the cities that was most affected by the Corona break in sports. Luleå Basket won Swedish Championship gold but without being allowed to play the playoffs, the men in BC Luleå never got the chance. It also did not outperform SHL winners Luleå Hockey and the club's ladies were in the middle of a final series against HV71 when everything stopped. The overall jury's assessment was also a bit mixed, four jury members had Luleå as number one, while 17 others did not have the city in their top 10 at all.
- For me, it is surprising that Luleå did not come even higher, I would have had the city top three if I had been on the jury. But many probably see the lack of breadth in more sports than ice hockey and basketball as too difficult to place really high, says SVT Sports Ola Bränholm, responsible for Sweden's best sports city.
Örebro (2011), Gothenburg (2012, 2013, 2016) and Malmö (2014, 2015) won Sweden's best sports city in the first six years. This year, all three are in places 7-10. All cities have great successes during the year, but also large teams that did not meet expectations.
Uppsala with its large palette of elite sports in many different sports and the world record holder Armand Duplantis as the biggest star is for the ninth time out of ten possible in the top 10. This year, the jury score was enough for sixth place. Tomorrow the countdown continues.
