The spring has been problematic for Meraf Bahta, who has been infected with covid-19 and suffered from other ailments.

- Meraf has been worn and tough all spring and had problems with allergies. It has been tough to breathe on certain sessions, her coach Ulf Fiberg told TT earlier this week.

Despite that, she was registered for a comeback of 10,000 meters, almost a year since the last competition, in the distance she took the European Championship bronze in 2018.

With one lap left to run, Bahta took the lead and made sure to pick up the pace so much that she could cross the finish line unpassed in the time of 34,07,21.

In 2018, the running star was suspended for a year after she submitted her stay report too late on two occasions and thus committed a violation of the sport's anti-doping regulations.

Bahta was free to compete again on September 1, 2019 and made a comeback the same day in the 5,000-meter race at the Swedish Championships in Karlstad.

On Sunday, she also runs 5000 meters.
