Liverpool will get a record sum after winning the Premier League title
The British newspaper The Times reported that Liverpool will receive a record sum of 175 million pounds ($ 228.45 million) after winning the Premier League, after 20 clubs participating in the tournament agreed to postpone any discounts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The newspaper said today that clubs will receive their full dues for last season, and that the broadcast rights discounts, amounting to 330 million pounds ($ 430.49 million), will be distributed over future seasons.
The newspaper added, citing financial expert Swiss Rumble, as saying that if the discount was applied, the value of what Liverpool would receive would have been reduced by about 21 million pounds. The 2019-2020 season was the first in a three-year period in which international broadcasting revenues were determined based on the position of each team in the ranking table at the end of the season instead of being divided equally among them.
It also stated that the lights league had agreed to pay solidarity payments with English professional football clubs in addition to the 125 million pounds in advance payments that were agreed upon last April. The Premier League declined to comment.
