"The payment of the debt became possible thanks to the support of the Ministry of Sports, which allocated a one-time subsidy to ARAF for the development of athletics," the press service of ARAF said in a statement.

Russian athletes have been forced to compete under a neutral flag since December 2016 due to the suspension of ARAF membership in World Athletics. ARAF was under the threat of even more serious sanctions from World Athletics, up to complete exclusion, in case of non-payment of a fine for violation of anti-doping rules related to the case of high jumper Danil Lysenko and falsification of documents in which the previous leadership of the federation was involved.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Sports allocated a subsidy to ARAF to repay the debt to World Athletics.
