A lottery with the highest sporting effort - who gets the chance to choose first in the annual NHL draft. That favor was won by the New York Rangers last night in front of the Los Angeles King and Ottawa Senators.

First time since 1965

This year, the lottery was between the eight teams that failed to advance from the play-in game when the NHL was restarted after a corona break. And now, after 55 years of waiting, the New York Rangers will once again get the first place among the many talented hockey players who line up in this year's draft.

Now all indications are that Rangers will choose the super talent Alexis Lafreniere. The 18-year-old who at the turn of the year led his Canada to a JVM gold against Russia in the final. And the young Canadian seems to be looking forward to wearing the Rangers uniform.

- This is very good news, says Lafreniere about tonight's draft lottery and continues:

- Rangers is an unreal team with many good players and a very wonderful city. So it's definitely good news, I'm very happy.

The NHL hopes to be able to organize the draft itself in early October after the Stanley Cup is finished. For the Swedish part, most of it is about Djurgården's Alexander Holtz and Frölunda's Lucas Raymond, who are both expected to be chosen early in the upcoming draft.
