Despite losing 0-1 to Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-final, Karl-Johan Johnsson was able to leave the lawn in Cologne straight-backed.

The Swede made one of the best efforts of his career and was highly praised after the match.

Johnsson has been ridiculously good. What an achievement ", wrote the English football icon Gary Lineker on Twitter and was supported by the Spanish star Cesc Fabregas:

"This goalkeeper makes the match of his life. Unbelievable."

The now retired Dutch shooting king Robin van Persie also did not hold back with the praise and said in BT Sports' broadcast that the Swedish goalkeeper should get the chance on a bigger stage than the Danish league.

- I hope so, for his sake. He really deserved it.

- He made some nice saves. Not only on balls that went straight at him, he played sacrificially and made fantastic saves. The one-handed save on (Anthony) Martial's shot was incredible.

Van Persie adds:

- His footwork was also very good. I think this is the best match of his life. That must be it.

The main character himself was of course very pleased with his efforts.
