Despite losing 0-1 to Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-final, Karl-Johan Johnsson was able to leave the lawn in Cologne straight-backed.

The Swede made one of the best efforts of his career and was highly praised after the match.

Johnsson has been ridiculously good. What an achievement ", wrote the English football icon Gary Lineker on Twitter and was supported by the Spanish star Cesc Fabregas:

"This goalkeeper makes the match of his life. Unbelievable."

"Deserved it"

The now retired Dutch shooting king Robin van Persie also did not hold back with the praise and said in BT Sports' broadcast that the Swedish goalkeeper should get the chance on a bigger stage than the Danish league.

- I hope so, for his sake. He really deserved it.

- He made some nice saves. Not only on balls that went straight at him, he played sacrificially and made fantastic saves. The one-handed save on (Anthony) Martial's shot was incredible.

Van Persie adds:

- His footwork was also very good. I think this is the best match of his life. That must be it.

13 rescues

The main character himself was of course very pleased with his efforts.

- It was good. It was 13 saves that it said I had, you usually do not have that as a goalkeeper, I can say, says Johnsson to P4 Halland.

- I came into the match and had to make some nice saves. Then once you are there, you just feel that "it's such a day".

About the tributes, Johnsson says:

- It's just fun to hear what they write. There are many who watch such a match and we will see what happens next now.

30-year-old Karl-Johan Johnsson came to FC Copenhagen from French Guingamp last year and in recent years has been the second goalkeeper behind Robin Olsen in the national team.
