Rikako Ikee was to become one of Sarah Sjöström's major competitors for medals in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. But the only 20-year-old Japanese suffered from leukemia and had to put her swimming career on pause to undergo treatment for the cancer.

But according to Japanese media, Ikee will soon make a long-awaited comeback in the competition pool. The 20-year-old planned to compete in October, but now looks to make his first run since the disease on August 29.

Rikako Ikee was seen as a big home jump before the Tokyo Olympics and the return to the water will also take place in the proposed Olympic pools in the Tatsumi Swimming Center.
