The International Motor Federation (FIA) sanctioned Racing Point with 400,000 euros and 15 points less in the Constructors' World Championship for copying the brake lines to Mercedes during the Styrian GP. The punishment, as a consequence of a claim filed by Renault, will not however affect the classification of Lance Stroll and Sergio Pérez nor will it prevent the British team from continuing to use the same designs until the end of the season.

Racing Point's RP20 rear brake cooling ducts are judged by the FIA judges to be "almost identical" to those of the W10 that Mercedes competed in at the 2019 World Cup. However, they consider that the team led by Otmar Szafnauer only he failed to comply with the sports regulations and not the technical regulations, which would have implied a safe disqualification of his two cars.

Another inconsistency in the decision is that it only applies to the Styrian GP, leaving aside the Hungarian GP and the British GP, where Renault had also filed claims. In these last two races, despite using the same parts copied to Mercedes, the FIA has simply opted for a reprimand.

The FIA considers that everything was an adaptation and not a design from scratch, as required by appendix 6 of the regulation. In this way, she believes that the effort of her engineers has not been the same as that of Mercedes and that for this reason they have obtained an advantage. Despite everything, Racing Point will not have to redesign its pieces, since for the FIA there is no sense in "unlearning" what they already know.
