Spain's Primera Liga side Alaves announced on Wednesday the appointment of Pablo Machin, the former Sevilla coach and Espanyol, to lead the team, succeeding Juan Ramon Lopez Moniz.

Muniz took Alaves leadership in the late 2019-2020 season and led him to 16th place despite one victory in four games.

Machin, 45, was appointed coach of Qingdao Huanghai in July, but he was unable to travel to China after a relative of his was injured by Covid-19.

The Spanish coach ended his association with the club Numancia second class before joining Girona in 2014 and led him to qualify for the League of Lights three years later.

His last experience with Espanyol was sacked in December when he was in last position in the league.
