Liverpool Football Club is close to signing Spanish defender Issa Mandi for Real Betis, as his contract with his current team expires next year.

The British newspaper "Daily Star" said on Monday that Liverpool's priority during the summer transfer period will be contracting with defenders, following the departure of Croatian Diane Lovrin to Zenit St Petersburg.

The newspaper added that Betis wants to benefit at the financial level from his Algerian defender, instead of losing him for free after the expiration of his contract, which gave Liverpool a big boost in his attempts to include the player.

And she added that Mandy, 28, had a good season in the Spanish League, capturing his attention with his distinguished performance with Betis.

Mandy joined Real Betis from the French Reims Stadium in 2016, where he played for the team 95 games and scored four goals, as he achieved the title of the 2019 African Nations Cup in Egypt with the Algerian national team.
