Another 172 km  - Corné van Kessel gives it a try. The Dutchman from Circus Wanty-Gobert, who flew in at a later date to replace his teammate Maurits Lammertink, tries to get away. However, his attempt is short-lived.

Peter Sagan is also present today. The Slovak is considered a dangerous outsider for the victory.

The Strade Bianche is still a relatively young course. The race was only held for the first time in 2007. Nevertheless, due to the often spectacular course, the race has gained enormous prestige in the cycling world in recent years. This is also due to the impressive list of former winners, which include the names of Fabian Cancellara, Phillipe Gilbert, Michal Kwiatkowski and Julian Alaphillippe.

Bicycles Van Dijk and Brand stolen for Strade Bianche
A bad start to the day for the Trek-Segafredo women's team, because six racing bikes were stolen last night. The team reports this on Twitter. The bicycles of Ellen van Dijk and Lucinda Brand, among others, have been stolen. According to the team, the perpetrators opened the roof of the truck to access the bicycles. The women now ride on spare bicycles. It is striking that the bicycles of the leader Longo Borghini were not stolen. The Strade Bianche for women starts at 11.55 am.
