The women's handball European Championships are organized in December by Denmark and Norway. But the Danish Handball Association says that they want financial guarantees from the international European Handball Association, EHF, to cover, among other things, audience income that can be lost - otherwise Denmark will drop out as the host country.

Stefan Lövgren, who is the Swedish representative on the European Handball Federation's executive committee, believes that the problem is bigger than that.

We do not control everything ourselves

- We have a covid-19 situation in the world that lies above everything. We do not control everything ourselves, says Stefan Lövgren.

- It's about: Can you travel? Do you dare to travel? Can you travel? And what is allowed from authorities other than the EHF or the Danish Handball Association or the Swedish Handball Association.

What is happening now is that the talks between the host countries, the authorities and the EHF are an ongoing discussion - to which there is still no answer.

- You sit together with different solutions, the problem looks different, not only for the countries that will arrange but for the countries that will get there. And what it will result in is too early to say right now, says Lövgren and adds.

- Then it is clear that it is not a desirable situation for anyone, it is. EHF sees what is happening around and tries to find solutions to it together with the organizers of course.

"The question is whether it is possible"

If Denmark chooses to drop out, will there be no European Championships then?

- Difficult to answer now. There are lots of different scenarios. It's just one of all the discussions that are now. Everyone wants it to be played, but the question is whether it is possible and under what conditions.
