The International Biathlon Federation has during a board meeting in German Munich this week supported and soaked various alternative plans for the coming season if it can not be implemented with the planned competition schedule.

So far, the association has not made any changes to the calendar, but all organizing venues still remain as previously clubbed.

- Of course there is an uncertainty around the season. So far, the normal competition program is the main scenario. Then we have to decide how to step forward in an adaptation process. If we start from the current situation, it is above all the audience side and the economic aspects we look at. At present, no audience or small audience is allowed in almost all countries. Then we will see if it becomes more difficult to travel to certain countries. It may be that we try to minimize travel and drive in fewer places. These are the different scenarios, says IBU chairman Olle Dahlin to TT.

Board meeting in September

The association has appointed a special group that every 14 days will coordinate and follow developments closely. But at the board meeting, which is at the end of September, the IBU will, as far as possible, nail down the competitions that are planned for November and December.

- It is a moving target we are working towards and the situation can change quickly. We must be prepared and there may be a second or third wave in some country, says Dahlin.

Audience decision important

The Swedish Public Health Agency has flagged that in August they will come up with clearer forecasts and data on when the audience can return to the stands. Should FHM give the green light, Östersund, which is the world cup organizer on 3-6 December, could benefit.

- It is an important piece of the puzzle when different scenarios are built.

In that case, could it mean that Östersund gets more competitions or competition days than they currently have?
- I do not want to speculate on that at all. But it will in any case strengthen the event that is today in the World Cup calendar, says Dahlin.

At present, there is still a ban on crowds of over 50 people in Sweden.
