Six late summer evenings, the host Yvette Hermundstad meets the main characters in twelve selected sports classics, in a program from SVT Sport called Sommaröppet.

In the second program, Sarah Sjöström remembers back when, as a fourteen-year-old, she stunned the swimming world by taking her first individual championship medal.

- I was just happy to be part of a European Championship actually. I had Easter break at eight and it was just fun, says Sjöström when she remembers back at the European Championships 2008.

- I absolutely did not think I would win. I remember sitting in the call room before the final and watching how the competitors did, but then once you are in the water, you know what to do, says Sjöström.

Only a year later, the really big breakthrough came when Sjöström delivered during the World Cup in Rome. Even then in the 100 meter butterfly but this time also in world record time.

- I had dreamed of winning World Cup gold at some point, but I did not think it would happen right then, says Sjöström.

Holm's historic gold in Athens

Stefan Holm is also in the program and remembers his greatest triumph, the Olympic gold in 2004. A championship where Holm, unlike Sjötröm, came to the competition as a big favorite but still managed to live up to expectations in what became an unforgettable evening in Athens.

- I knew that it was probably my last chance to win an Olympic gold. It was the Olympic gold that was left, no one had done it before in Swedish high jump, so now was my chance to write history, says Stefan Holm.

The summer open with Sjöström and Holm is broadcast at 20.00 on SVT1 on Thursday 30 July and can also be seen on SVT Play or in the player below.
