Clubs in the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division may apply five substitutions per game next season. As expected, the KNVB follows the line of the international rules of the game IFAB.

The rule change was created a few months ago to relieve players during the resumption of the season interrupted by the corona crisis. Since many leagues have come to a standstill this summer and players have little recovery time, IFAB decided earlier this month to maintain the five substitutes.

National federations are allowed to decide for themselves whether they agree with the rule change, so it was not yet entirely sure whether the Dutch clubs can also change five times next season. However, the KNVB simply decides to follow the line of IFAB.

The Dutch clubs may not only use the two extra substitutes in the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division, but also in the TOTO KNVB Cup and the playoffs for European football.

To avoid stopping the game too often, only three switch points can be used. In addition, a trainer may also choose to change players at half-time.
