The Téléfoot channel, owned by Mediapro and a new player in TV rights in France, will join forces with Netflix, according to "L'Équipe". A subscription for less than 30 euros per month will be offered to football fans, with a minimum commitment of one year.

Téléfoot is being structured before its official launch in France, Monday August 17th. After a distribution agreement with the operator SFR, the new sports channel, owned by the Sino-Spanish group Mediapro, will join forces with the audiovisual streaming giant Netflix, according to information from L'Équipe , Wednesday afternoon. The sports newspaper specifies that the goal of this association is to offer a combined subscription for the two services from next season, which begins at the end of August.

Eight euro savings per month

The concrete translation of this agreement would be the marketing, on OTT platforms (websites and applications, excluding distribution by box), "of a subscription to his channel and to Netflix for a sum of less than 30 euros per month, with a duration a one-year commitment, "writes L'Équipe .

The classic Netflix offer being at 11.99 euros per month (broadcast in HD and two screens simultaneously) and the Telefoot subscription only at 25.90 per month, the viewer who subscribes to this offer would save nearly eight euros per month by subscribing for one year.

Bitter struggle with Canal +

The subscribers would have the cultural content of the American giant (films, series and documentaries) and sports content of the latest French audiovisual (eight Ligue 1 matches per week, but also the Champions League and the Europa League thanks to the agreement with SFR).

While discussions are underway with other operators for new distribution agreements, Mediapro is positioning itself, with this alliance, against Canal +, another Ligue 1 broadcaster (two Ligue 1 posters per week), which already offers a sport, series and cinema package. And, recalls L'Équipe , which already reached an agreement with Netflix in the fall of 2019 for a coupled subscription, but without part of the sports content of Canal +.
