Göteborg FC has never won the damallsvenskan, but has a stated goal to do so after two straight second places. Now the team leads the series one point ahead of the reigning champion team Rosengård before Thursday's series final.

There were big headlines when national team star Stina Blackstenius joined from Linköping after a long legal dispute. The shooting queen would carry the team to the historic Swedish Championship gold.

Initially, she has scored a goal, in the 4-0 win against Växjö, and an assist in six rounds and got to start in half of the matches.

Big name in the attack

She feels that she has only now got to know the players and the way they play.

- It's just believing that the goals will come. The most important thing is that we win our matches as a team. Then you always want to score goals as a forward, you can not get away from that, she says.

The 24-year-old striker is in good offensive company in the JRC. Pauline Hammarlund, four goals, and Rebecka Blomqvist, two goals, compete for the starting places.

It is star-studded even on the other side of the half of the plan in the series final. In Rosengård are Mimmi Larsson and Anna Anvegård, the latter has, like Hammarlund, scored four goals so far this year. Shooting league leader, however, is Loreta Kullashi with six goals for her Eskilstuna.

offensive Strength

Stina Blackstenius feels the competition, both in club teams and in national teams.

- There is always competition. For me, it's about not thinking too much about it but just focusing on what I do. You know about the competition.

TT: Do you feel that you get the most out of your game here in Gothenburg?

- Yes, now there have been some matches here in the beginning against teams that have been quite low in their defensive game. There will not be as many surfaces to run on as a forward. One of my strengths is working more in depth, so it is very developing for me.

Gerhardsson on site

Federation captain Peter Gerhardsson will see the summit on site in Gothenburg. The next national team gathering is in September with European Championship qualifiers against Hungary and Iceland. He likes what he has seen of Blackstenius, who decided both the round of 16 and the quarterfinals of the World Cup in France in 2019 when Sweden took bronze.

- What I have seen of Stina is that she has been very active. Even though she has only scored one goal, she has been involved in a lot going forward with pole shots, among other things. Sometimes there are small margins, says Gerhardsson.

Göteborg FC has a tight game schedule with five matches in 18 days. Next week begins against Stina Blackstenius' former club Linköping.

- Right now the focus is only on the match against Rosengård, she says.
