After a twelfth place in the series and a derby loss against arch-rivals Djurgården, AIK's sporting lead got enough and fired Rikard Norling. The head coach had tried to implement a new, more offensive style of play, but the results went against Solnalaget.

"Of course I have a big responsibility"

On Monday, the club called a press conference where Rikard Norling got the chance to respond to the media, but from the sports management it was quiet. SVT Sport together with many other media have these days searched for AIK's strong man, Björn Wesström, without result. On social media, many AIK supporters have sought answers to questions about the dismissal and now Wesström chooses to respond to several of these in AIK's own media channel, Follow Us AIK.

- I have understood that there is a certain criticism in that I have not been particularly visible, especially for the media, says Wesström in Studio AIK.

Many of the questions have been about the responsibility behind the decision to dismiss Rikard Norling, something Wesström answered today.

- Of course I have a big responsibility. I have hired Rikard Norling and his entire staff and signed agreements with all players. Of course I have a big part in it.

On Sunday, AIK will play against Kalmar at the arena where the team took home the Swedish Championship gold in 2018. No new head coach after Norling is ready yet, but according to the club director, work is in full swing with a replacement.

- We have met three candidates, this is where we are in the selection process, says Wesström and continues:

- The three candidates we met we have had very good control of before.
