Karl-Heinz Rummenigge does not understand that the French magazine France Football is not organizing a Golden Ball election this year and is considering talking to FIFA. According to the chairman of Bayern Munich, it was the opportunity for striker Robert Lewandowski to take the prestigious prize.

France Football believes that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a good comparison cannot be made between the different leagues, but Rummenigge disagrees.

"We're not happy with France Football 's decision , because it's just not quite delicious. Robert is earning the Golden Ball this year," Bayern chairman said at a press release on Monday.

"He's having a great season. With 34 goals in the league and eleven in the Champions League, it might be the best season of his career. It should be possible to award the Golden Ball."

Including the duels in the DFB-Pokal, the counter for 31-year-old Lewandowski this season stands at 51 goals in 43 games. That number can add up: Bayern is with one leg in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

"Maybe we can convince France Football "

Rummenigge, 64, plans to speak to FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He hopes that the Swiss will support him and that a Golden Ball can still be forgiven.

"Except for Ligue 1, all major leagues are just finished," said the German. "Maybe Infantino and I can convince France Football or FIFA can award its own Golden Ball."

The Golden Ball went to Lionel Messi for the sixth time last year. Virgil van Dijk finished second in the election. Messi also won the FIFA election. That gala will not take place this year as a result of the corona crisis.
