Former Zamalek player Farouk Jaafar raised the controversy over Egypt’s qualification for the 1990 World Cup, indicating that African arbitration played a major role in this matter and that it helped African clubs in the 1980s.

Jaafar received sharp criticism for the statements he made to the Zamalek channel, before he came out in other statements published by Yala Koura Al-Masry, confirming that he did not mean the controversial statements he made on the club's channel, indicating that Egypt will remain the leader of African football.

He said: "I do not want people to understand my statements wrongly, I am not talking about the power of Egyptian football and Egypt is one of the masters of football in the African continent in performance, whether at the level of clubs or teams."
