As recently as last winter, the giant slalom skier Mattias Rönngren suffered both a concussion and a knee injury which meant that the VC season was over for him.

Now the 26-year-old has gone on another slap. An injury to the cartilage in the left shoulder joint has forced the star to surgery two weeks ago.

- Right now he has severe limitations in his mobility. Tough rehab is required after such an operation. The shaft does not last too long unfortunately. It will take several months before he can train full strength training and ski, says alpine national team doctor Jakob Swanberg to SVT Sport.

Will delay the season

Mattias Rönngren performed the operation two weeks ago. The doctor suspects that the injury was caused by a previous crash that he did not feel then but which was expressed later. It is already clear that he will not be able to start the season as planned.

- The obvious thing is that it will delay his season, says the national team doctor and continues:

- Mentally it is heavy but he views it positively and finds alternative ways to train.

Mattias Rönngren finished sixth in the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia in December.
