Take out your Breton flags and your red polka dot cap… In 2021, the start of the Tour de France could be given in Brittany. According to information from the Telegram , the region has been offered to host the big start of the queen event of cycling. The reason ? The hyper busy calendar of the year 2021 linked to the postponement of the Euro football and the Olympic Games. Copenhagen, which was to host the big departure, would have asked to skip its turn.

The capital of Denmark being one of the twelve host cities of the Euro, it should host four meetings on June 12, 17, 21 and 28. Impossible then to accept the request of Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) which orchestrates the Big loop, to bring forward the start to June 25th. The organizer of the competition and the International Cycling Union (UCI) would like an earlier start in order to allow the riders to take part in the Olympic events in Japan in July. According to Le Télégramme , Rennes and Lorient would be the most likely tracks to host the 2021 start on the land of Bernard Hinault, the last French winner of the Tour.

A departure delayed until the end of August this year

The start of the 2020 edition had already had to be postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic. The Tour de France will take place from August 29 to September 30. The start will be from Nice. The Tour de France has never left so late in the summer since its creation in 1903.
