We were waiting for confirmation. It fell on Wednesday evening in a brief statement posted on the club's website. "Stade Rennais informs the end of its collaboration with Sylvain Armand, thanks him for the work accomplished and wishes him the best for the rest of his professional career". This is how the career of the former FC Nantes player ended, who landed in Rennes in 2013 after several seasons with PSG.

At the end of his playing career, Sylvain Armand was offered the post of sports coordinator of Stade Rennais, well helped by its president Olivier Létang, to whom he was very close. The latter's surprise departure at the start of the year had weakened the place of the former central defender.

" A page turns "

Interviewed, the new president Nicolas Holveck had let it be known that there would be “very little movement” and only “a few adjustments” within the management team of François Pinault's club. We quickly understood that the arrival of the former Lyonnais Florian Maurice as sporting director, accompanied by his staff, would hardly leave room for the player trained at AS Saint-Etienne.

The one who was champion of France with Nantes and Paris is retiring for the time being from French football. In just under 20 years of playing career, he would have taken part in 534 league games and around 60 European games. "A page is turning, new challenges are opening up to me," said the former defender.
