Spanish football club Villarreal announced today, Thursday, the appointment of Unai Emery as the new coach for three years, to succeed Javi Kayeja, who was dismissed from his position at the end of the season despite leading the team to the fifth place that qualified for the European League competition "Europa League" for next season.
"Villarreal has reached an agreement with Unai Emery to take over the Basque coach as coach of the yellow team for the next three years," the club said in a statement.
Emery (48 years old) was sacked from Arsenal in November after a series of seven games without a win for the "Al-Masfaya" team, the worst since 1992, after arriving at the Emirates Stadium in May 2018 to succeed the famous French Arsene Wenger.
Emery led the London club to the "Europa League" final last season before losing to its arch-rivals Chelsea, knowing that it won the title of the continental competition in three consecutive times between 2014 and 2016 with Seville.
The Spaniard supervised Paris Saint-Germain of France between 2016 and 2018 and led him to the league title in 2018, and two titles in both the Cup and League Cup.
Kayekha's dismissal came as a surprise after he received the technical management of the "Yellow Submarine" team in late September 2017 and succeeded in his first season in leading him to fifth place and qualifying for the European League competition.
Caija was sacked in the following season, specifically in December 2018 due to the disappointing results that put the team between the centers leading to the second degree, but Villarreal resorted to his services again after less than two months of his dismissal and succeeded in saving him from the decline.
This season, thanks to the good results achieved by the team after the resumption of competitions after stopping due to the new Corona virus, Kayeja repeated his achievement for the 2017-2018 season and led the club to fifth place in the League and qualify for the European League competition.
