The son of Formula 1 racing star and former Paralympic champion Alex Zanardi has confirmed that his father's life is no longer in danger and that there are "encouraging signs" of his recovery.

Zanardi, the former Italian driver in the Formula 1 racing world championship and the Paralympic champion, was seriously injured in a traffic accident on June 19, and was transferred to a rehabilitation center on Tuesday after more than a month in the hospital.

His father Nicolo said in an interview published in the Italian newspaper "Il Corriere della Sera" today, Wednesday: "My father will do this, I trust him. He will achieve it this time too. One day we will talk about him. He will talk to me and also to my (future) children. I am optimistic, and so is my mother." ".

Niccolo, 21, made clear that he had not regained consciousness and that he might not regain his eyesight. He said: "What matters is knowing whether we will be able to communicate with him again. We have a long way ahead."

Niccolo noted that Zanardi's recovery "was much faster than we expected. But it shouldn't come as a surprise to us: this is my father. The energy of this man is incredible, his strength is exceptional."
