Tiomila, which gathers thousands of orienteers, has only been canceled once since the start in 1945. It was 1962 during a jaundice epidemic. But now it is clear that there will be no competition in 2020.

- Ever since May, we have worked hard to get a Tiomila in Idre Fjäll, to be ready if the pandemic would allow. Unfortunately, it does not and we are therefore forced to make a really difficult decision: not to go ahead and thus cancel Tiomila, says competition leader Per Forsberg in a press release.

The registration fee is refunded

The teams that were registered for this year's relay will get back the entire registration fee. The organizer Tiomilaföreningen now hopes to be able to carry out the competition next year in Valdemarsvik as planned.

- It will be a very nice event with cruel orienteering terrain, says Christer Nordström, chairman of the Tiomila Association.

It is already clear that the O-ring in Uppsala, which was to be decided this week, will be postponed for a year.
