The Swedish jumper Henrik Norlander went around a total of three strokes under par and a final sixth place at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, and was able to state in the clubhouse that he has reached his best position on the PGA Tour since November last year.

The 33-year-old Swede had several good opportunities to advance further to the top of Muirfield Village, but the already normally difficult course was not made easier when the rain poured down during the day.

His result for the day of 74 strokes, two over par, was completely in line with the other top players, of the top nine in the competition, only one player, Matthew Fitzpatrick, managed to go under par on Sunday. The Englishman was awarded a final third place in the competition, but could never threaten the winner Jon Rahm.

Nicklaus congratulated

On Sunday, Rahm went out with four kinds of lead ahead of the American Ryan Palmer, a lead that had grown to eight strokes after the half-final round. But then even the great Spaniard began to fail a bit - and maybe the competition could get a little nervous?

But no, a bogey on the tenth hole and a double bogey on the eleventh for Rahm - and a birdie for Palmer - were not enough. In the end, only Rahm could see if anyone threatened him, but not even two kinds of duty changed the situation.

Immediately after hitting the 18th green, he was congratulated by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. There was no hug, however, 80-year-old Nicklaus had earlier in the day revealed that he and his wife Barbara had been infected with the coronavirus in the spring.

New world number one

Nicklaus congratulated with a corona-proof fist bump and especially praised a nice chip in the hole on the 16th hole.

- That chip was exactly what I needed, that it went in was fantastic. This was the best melee I ever got, Rahm said in the TV broadcast afterwards.

Thanks to the victory, 25-year-old Rahm is the new world number one.

- It will sink in a couple of days or a couple of weeks. But writing me in the Spanish history books next to Seve is just amazing, said Rahm, referring to the Spanish legend and former world setter Seve Ballesteros.
