Memphis Depay drew attention on Saturday evening by scoring a beautiful heel for Olympique Lyon in the exhibition game against Celtic. For the attacker, this is proof that the hard work during the rehabilitation of a serious knee injury has had results.
"Initially everything was focused on reaching the European Championship, but that was canceled," Memphis said to FOX Sports after the 2-1 exhibition win . "But the hard work pays off. I can play again and I am very happy with that."
Memphis made his comeback at the beginning of this month in an exhibition game with the amateurs of US Port Valais, in which he immediately scored four times. With Rangers FC (of which Lyon lost 2-0 on Thursday) and Celtic as opponents, the bar is significantly higher this week at the Trophée Veólia.
"After six months I am back in the team, but I find that I need this kind of match to get in shape," says Memphis. "I notice that I am also very tired now."

Memphis with Lyon still in the race for two prizes
Although the competition in France, just like in the Netherlands, ended early, there is still plenty for Lyon to play for this season. The team will play the delayed final of the Coupe de la Ligue against Paris Saint-Germain on July 31.
The denouement of the Champions League will follow in August. After the 1-0 home win over Juventus, Lyon has an excellent starting position to reach the quarterfinals.
"Today we won, but many things need to be improved," says Memphis. "For me personally, there are many things to be proud of, although I do notice that we still have to grow as a team."
