“Start gives Moscow”: XXII Summer Olympic Games began 40 years ago

On July 19, 1980, the XXII Summer Olympic Games opened in Moscow. Experts call this tournament one of the best sports competitions in the history of the Olympic movement. Due to political contradictions, the authorities of several countries announced a boycott of the Games in Moscow, however, many athletes still arrived in the USSR and performed under the Olympic flags. At the 1980 Games, 36 world and 74 Olympic records were set. At a high level, decoration and musical accompaniment of sports was organized. Songs written in honor of the tournament “Moscow Starts”, “Olympiad”, “Five Rings”, “Goodbye, Moscow” became widely known. Millions of people around the world remember how at the close of the Games their talisman - an Olympic bear - ascended into the sky.
