Former goalkeeper Iker Casillas will return to his club Real Madrid, who is crowned La Liga title this season, to occupy an advisory position to his boss Florentino Perez, according to local press reports.

Reports, including the Madrid newspaper "Marca" and the Spanish service of "ESPN", indicated that the negotiations between the former captain and the club management have reached advanced stages, and he is likely to be in his new position with the start of the 2020-2021 season in September.

Casillas, 39, grew up in Real, and spent almost 25 years with him, defending 16 of them for the first team, before moving in 2015 to Porto.

Casillas became one of the legendary names in the history of the White Castle. The website describes Real's former captain as "the best goalkeeper in our history" after he fought 725 games (the second historically behind record holder Raul with 741 games), in a march that saw his crowning with 19 titles, most notably three in the Champions League, and five in the Spanish League.

He also carried the captaincy of the Spanish national team, with which he played 167 international matches, and was part of a golden squad that won three consecutive big titles: the 2010 World Cup, the European Cup 2008 and 2012.
