The morning of July 18 began with tragic news for figure skating. World Junior Champion Ekaterina Alexandrovskaya died in central Moscow at the age of 20, media reported.

According to the source of the Telegram channel "112", the skater fell out of the window from the sixth floor.

“The body was found under the windows of the house. The incident happened tonight. Now law enforcement officers establish all the circumstances of the incident, ”the source said.

However, according to a TASS interlocutor in law enforcement, Aleksandrovskaya could have committed suicide. According to him, a note with the word "love" was found at the place of death.

“The body of 20-year-old Aleksandrovskaya was discovered near a house on 1905 street. The preliminary cause of death is suicide, ”the agency reports, noting that the girl had previously tried to lose her life after an injury.

Alexandrovskaya is best known as a participant in the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and the winner of the World Junior Championships. She performed under the flag of Australia in tandem with Harley Windsor. They competed until last season, after which they announced the collapse of the duo.

Alexandrovskaya began her sports career as a loner in Moscow. She studied under the guidance of Inna Goncharenko and Svetlana Sokolovskaya, until at age 12 she moved to Dnepropetrovsk to perform pair skating with Vladislav Lysy. Soon the skater returned to Moscow and paired up with Alexander Epifanov. At the youth level, Aleksandrovskaya did not achieve significant success, limiting herself to participation in the stages of the Russian Cup.

The turning point in her career was a meeting with the Australian skater Harley Windsor. His coaches Andrei and Galina Pashin were looking for a suitable partner in Russia when a well-known specialist in pair skating Nina Moser turned to them and offered to try to ride with Aleksandrovskaya. Athletes began to engage under her leadership in Moscow and under the supervision of the Pashins in Sydney. In the summer of 2016, the athlete received the consent of the Russian Figure Skating Federation for the transition to the Australian national team.

At their first international start, the stage of the Junior Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, Alexandrovskaya and Windsor took eighth place. However, a month later they won an unexpected victory in Tallinn. Also at the Finlandia Trophy tournament, they scored enough points to perform in adult competitions in the second half of the season.

The main success of the couple was waiting at the Junior World Championships in Taipei. Alexandrovskaya and Windsor sensationally won the gold, beating two points of future European champions Alexander Boykov and Dmitry Kozlovsky. For Australia, this was the first victory at an official international start. At the adult world championships, athletes became 16th.

In the next Olympic season, Alexandrovskaya and Windsor were third at the Nebelhorn Trophy and got the opportunity to speak at the Games in Pyeongchang. Before the trip to South Korea, the skaters won the final of the Junior Grand Prix, leaving behind not only Boykova with Kozlovsky, but also Daria Pavlyuchenko with Denis Khodykin. In Pyeongchang, Alexandrovskaya and Windsor again competed with adults and took 18th place, without breaking into the free program.

Soon, the Australian couple moved to Montreal to Richard Gaultier and Bruno Marcotte, but due to health problems could no longer progress. The skaters had to miss some important starts, and at the stages of the Grand Prix they did not get close to the medals. Last season, Aleksandrovskaya and Windsor returned to Sydney and began to study under the guidance of former coach Andrei Hekalo, but they still could not cope with injuries. In February, Windsor announced that because of this they are ending their joint performances. The last time they took part in the American stage of the Grand Prix, where they took seventh place.

Olympic champion Maxim Trankov worked with Alexandrovskaya in the same group of Nina Moser. He admitted that he was shocked by the news of the death of the former world junior champion.

“This is always very terrible news when such young athletes leave. In figure skating, everyone has a family relationship with each other, so this is a great loss and grief. Too often, such news began to come, almost once a year. I want to express words of support to her mother, although it is very difficult to say something. We once rode on the same rink, Katya grew up in our eyes with Tatyana Volosozhar. I was shocked by this news, until it fits my head, ”Trankov told RT.

The former skater said that her couple with Windsor was one of the most unusual in figure skating, and thanks to this, the athlete managed to enter the history of her sport.

“Katya did not find her partner in Russia until one day a good guy from Australia arrived, Harley Windsor. He was offered another girl, but he and Katya wanted to ride together, and it was a very fruitful collaboration. They won the Junior World Cup, went to the Olympic Games. Their pair was exotic in figure skating. The Australians never won any medals, but Katya entered her name in their figure skating history. She was a good athlete, possessed all the necessary elements, had a strong jumping part and was trained in all paired elements, ”said the winner of the Games in Sochi.
