Claudio Gómez Navarro , manager of the Association of Handball Players (AJBM) and director of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEB), died this Thursday in Soria, during the development of the campus that the association conducts each year, both organizations reported.

Manager of the AJBM for more than two decades, Gómez was a player and played an outstanding career as a goalkeeper in clubs such as Atlético de Madrid, Conquense and Ciudad Real Handball, as well as junior and senior international.

For almost ten years he was part of Atlético de Madrid, with which he achieved two Leagues -1983/84 and 1984 / 85-, a Copa del Rey -1986 / 87- and a runner-up in the European Cup -1984 / 85- and later he played in the Conquense Handball Society and in Ciudad Real Handball, before retiring in 1998.

Graduated in psychology, after his retirement he joined the Players Association in which he served as manager and "became the catalyst for the change of the AJBM, promoting grassroots sport through the summer camps that he annually led, and assuming a leading role in the fight for the rights of handball players, "said the Spanish Federation, an organization that distinguished him in 2019 with his Gold Medal and Badge for Sports Merit.

The RFEB and the president of its managing commission, Francisco Blázquez , expressed their pain "for the loss of such a representative person and that, due to his intimate way of being, he had won the sympathy and affection of the entire Spanish handball family "
