Kiki Bertens will not make an appearance on Wednesday at the Bett1-aces Tournament, a demonstration tournament in Berlin. Her second lawn has been canceled due to heavy rainfall in the German city.
Bertens would face Anastasija Sevastova in the afternoon in the battle for third place. The organization first postponed the game to the evening and later decided not to finish it at all.
De Wateringse lost without a chance on Tuesday in two sets against Petra Kvitová: 3-6 and 2-6. He will play the final on Wednesday-evening against Elina Svitolina, who was too strong for Sevastova in two sets on Tuesday: 7-6 (2) and 6-3.
Bertens will play again against an opponent to be determined on Friday. The participants of the Bett1-aces Tournament then exchange the grass in the Steffi Graf Stadium for a hard court in a hangar of Tempelhof airfield.
The head of Dutch tennis uses the demonstration tournament in Berlin to see how she is physically doing, after almost five months of doing nothing because tennis was still all that time because of the outbreak of COVID-19.
"The level was hard to find against Petra, but the beginning is there. I have not played any matches for so long, you can see that. I have to get in there," said Bertens after her defeat against Kvitová.
