Rabbi Matondo was tapped on his fingers by his club Schalke 04 on Tuesday after he had himself photographed in the gym in a shirt of arch rival Borussia Dortmund.

Nineteen-year-old Welshman finished his exercises in a Cardiff gym in the shirt of Dortmund player Jadon Sancho, with whom he is close friends. That caused furious reactions from Schalke supporters via social media.

The board of Schalke clearly could not appreciate the action. "I made it clear to him over the phone what I think of such a brash act," sports director Jochen Schneider told Kicker .

"He may only be nineteen years old, but this should not happen to him. We told him that he will have to show the correct response to his misconduct especially on the field."

Matondo has played for Schalke since 2019, having played for Manchester City and Cardiff City in his youth. Last season, the wing attacker scored two goals in twenty Bundesliga games.
