It is soon gone again. The next season of the D1 women's handball championship will begin on September 9, the League announced on Saturday. For the 2019-2020 season, the supporters were hungry: premature end in April due to the coronavirus pandemic and above all no title was awarded, the clubs of Brest and Metz having finished the season tied of the rank.

A championship with two more clubs

However, "this new season with 14 clubs promises to be still full of uncertainties and with the medical committee, we will obviously be attentive to the evolution of the health situation in France", wanted to procrastinate Nodjialem Myaro, president of the LFH. In mid-April, the League had adopted the principle of switching from next season to a championship of 12 to 14 clubs, with two clubs promoted from the 2nd division to the Women's League, namely Plan de Cuques and Saint Amand- water. In addition, the format of the competition will be changed: "the classification will determine the champion of France at the end of the championship, the project of a final between the first two having been abandoned," said the League. So far, the top eight in the regular season have qualified for the playoffs, which have now been eliminated.

The League also specifies that the formula of the Coupe de France has been modified “in order to lighten the calendars”, in particular for the teams playing the European cups, which will enter the competition “only from the quarter-finals” . For the Cup, "the 9 non-European Butagaz Energy League teams were divided into 5 pools of 5 teams and each team will only compete once in 5 days from the weekend of September 12 and 13" .
