The third free practice of the Styrian Grand Prix is canceled on Saturday. Due to the heavy rainfall in Spielberg, it is too dangerous to race.
At the beginning of the morning it seemed to be not too bad, but the last few hours it erupted above the Red Bull Ring. The Formula 3 race, which started well before the third practice, was halted after fifteen laps due to the many spins on the soaking wet track.
The third free practice in Formula 1, which was scheduled to start at noon, was initially delayed until further notice, but 40 minutes after the original start time, the training was ended.
Chances are that the qualification will not be able to continue at 3 p.m. In that case it will be moved to Sunday morning. If the weather conditions are not good enough, the result of the second free practice applies.
In that case, Max Verstappen will start from pole position in Spielberg on Sunday, followed by Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Sergio Pérez (Racing Point). However, there seems a good chance that the qualification can be held on Sunday morning, because the weather forecasts are good.
It is the second week in a row that racing takes place in Austria, after Bottas won the first Grand Prix of the season last week. Verstappen dropped out in the opening phase of the race.
