On Tuesday, it became clear that Hedvig Lindahl is moving to Spain and Atlético Madrid. The 37-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club that has high ambitions and in the long term wants to challenge the top teams.

Lindahl's contract expires in 2022 and extends to both the Olympic Games 2021 and the European Championships 2022 - but that does not guarantee that the Swedish goalkeeper represents Sweden in the championship.

- I feel that so much has happened. It is a generational exchange where there are others who take care of themselves and a little neighbor I feel that I will be like a stop block, says Hedvig Lindahl to SVT Sport.

- At the same time, I have talked to some players who say they are happy to have me and that I am important to the national team. Is it most positive that I am still in the national team maybe I will be there but it is not as obvious to me anymore.

Another reason is that Lindahl wants time over to the family.

Definitely closes the door to the World Cup 2023

- Now I will live even further away from Sweden, there will be longer trips and I do not like to be away from the family so much. It becomes more to fly and I don't like it either. There is a lot that makes me feel "is it worth it?".

- I feel that if you continue to invest in the national team, you must do it 100 percent and contribute in every way. I do not want to be bitter that I also spent time with my children.

The Swedish goalkeeper, who has played in both Chelsea and Wolfsburg, is definitely closing the door to the 2023 World Cup Games.

- Hopefully, the game on the pitch will determine if I'm good enough and get selected and then it's a decision that I and the family will have to make.

Thus, the dream of Hedvig Lindahl, especially in the 2021 Olympics, lives.

- The Olympics I have said that I play, so I must stand my throw. The Olympics are a fantastic experience and I think we have a good chance there. I leave it unsaid, but hopefully I'm in the Olympics.
