Due to the corona pandemic and the increased risk of injury that a compressed game schedule may entail, the rule was introduced to allow five changes per team per match.
According to The Athletic, the football regulatory body of the International Football Association Board, IFAB, has decided that the rule should apply next season as well.
The reason is that the start of the season for 2020/21 will start later than usual and therefore the wear on the players can be great even then.
