After announcing on July 2 his plans to leave the Girondins de Bordeaux, Paulo Sousa continued this week to work normally with his players, pending an agreement on this departure. The club is already active to find its replacement and the French track seems privileged, a Jean-Louis Gasset-Ghislain Printant duo arriving at the top of the list, according to AFP.

For Gasset, 66, it would be a comeback: he was the assistant to Laurent Blanc (2007-2010) with whom he led the Girondins towards the double title of champion of France and Coupe de la Ligue in 2009. White was also approached too, according to L'Equipe, but "his emoluments were out of reach". With Printant, 59, Gasset would reform the duo that worked well in Saint-Etienne (2017 and 2019). They brought the Greens back to the European stage with a qualification for the Europa League.

Passing in front of the DNCG on July 16

In office since March 2019 and under contract until June 2022, Paulo Sousa, 49, announced on July 2 to his executive players his intention to leave. His reasons: incompatibility at all levels with its president Frédéric Longuépée, the lack of ambition displayed, the means made available to him…

Negotiations between the Girondins who “acted on his decision” and Sousa, who would have claimed a year's salary (around 3.3 million euros), were notably slowed by the postponement to July 16 of the club's passage before the DNCG , originally scheduled for Tuesday.

A good choice to ease the crisis?

Gasset and Printant are free and could quickly join the Gironde, if the departure from Sousa is settled. The arrival of Gasset, who left a good memory in Gironde, would also demonstrate a change of orientation of the club, still stuck in its crisis on governance between supporters wind up against the American shareholder King Street and the management, whose they demand resignation.

Since January 18, 2018 and the dismissal of Jocelyn Gourvennec, the Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet (January-August), the Brazilian Ricardo Gomes (September 2018-February 2019 with the French Éric Bédouet) and then Sousa have led the Bordeaux team.
