The alternative to moving the Ryder Cup was to play the competition with no or very few spectators. Both team captains, USA's Steve Stricker and Europe's Padraig Harrington, have said they would rather not see. And several players have been against playing without an audience.

- It feels strange, to say the least, to even think that thought. In tough situations, tough decisions are required, but it would be a strange feeling. Although you know that there are hundreds of millions watching TV, it would feel strange if there might be 10-20 people clapping when you go up with Justin Rose on the first tee to meet Rickie Fowler and Bubba Watson, Henrik has Stenson previously told TT.

Northern Ireland Rory McIlroy has said he wants the Ryder Cup to be postponed for a year. And the Englishman Paul Casey wants audience or nothing at all.

- I want a full capacity Ryder Cup. I want there to be screaming supporters there, he has told TT.

The Ryder Cup will be decided September 24-26 next year.
