"Continue and transform the test" ... Bernard Laporte formalized Tuesday, in an interview with AFP, his candidacy for a second term as president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR).

The FFR elections were maintained on October 3 even if the opposition, led by the president of the Ile-de-France league Florian Grill, had asked for a postponement due to the health crisis.

During the previous election, won against outgoing Pierre Camou in 2016, Bernard Laporte left quickly, pounding the pavement more than a year before the vote. This time, the former coach of the Blues (1999-2007) waited. “I did not declare myself late: with what we experienced, we had to be hard at work, among the clubs. With the stimulus package, it was a lot of work, a lot of videoconferencing, ”he explained.

“In addition, I was elected vice-president of World Rugby, it was also a lot of visions in parallel. It's normal but I preferred to accompany the clubs and declare myself at the last moment. I will remain president until October 3: I do not believe that an institution like ours can do without president. I will have to make the difference between the two, "he added.
